Week 12 Lab

I decided to do the lab for this week and focus on the creative writing video playlist. At the beginning of the semester I wasn't super prepared for the amount of writing I would have to do in the semester as a whole. I was excited for the opportunity but a little scared at what was to come. As the semester has gone on I have truly grasped creative writing and what it takes to do it at a decent level. I feel my writing has slowly gotten better and better throughout the semester and it was cool to watch and listen to the videos on the playlist to really give myself more information on creative writing and how to do ti even better than I am already doing it at. There were two videos that I really enjoyed. The first was the What makes a hero video. I love the graphics of the video and it made it very appealing to me. The content was amazing. It was cool to see the theory of how a lot of heroes in stories could be connected to each other and based off of myths and other older stories. The Hero's journey is such a cool concept and how so many hero stories follow the same storyline and I never would have thought that it would be like this. The other video that I thoroughly enjoyed was the How to build a fictional world?  The creation of worlds are so cool and it is amazing how writers can make it possible for readers to buy in and know the fictional world quickly. The faster the reader understands the world the faster they are in love with the characters and the world that has been created. A good fictional world makes a great story! It was a great experience to be able to watch and learn about creative writing and all the different things that go into to make it great!

Week 10 Lab

I decided to watch the language playlist of videos and I really enjoyed them a lot more than I though I would. The first video was cool as it was just a background story into the splitting of languages. I enjoyed the animation of the video as it was easy to follow and had some comedic elements to the video which made it more enjoyable. One of my favorite videos is the verb tense video. It was funny to see how complex our language actually is. The thought of trying to learn English from scratch is crazy to think about. The fact that there are so many verb tenses is crazy to think about. It makes English seem as such a difficult language that seems impossible to learn in full which is probably very true after watching the video. Having 12 verb tenses is crazy compared to some languages that only have few to none. It is funny to watch the videos and how the correspond to a class I am currently taking. The videos contained a lot of new information that I would have never thought of, but they also brought up fascinating points about language that I thought were super cool. Probably my favorite is the new word video. The crazy numbers about number of words in the English language as well as the number of words added each year. That is such a staggering number for a language as old as English. It is really cool to see how much of the English language is just a melting pot of multiple languages from across the world. Another crazy fact about language is that many countries have language academies to decide on new words. That is some dedication to language that is awesome to see and know about.

Week 4 Lab

I decided to do the lab this week and I watched the Crash Course Myth Videos. I watched many of Crash Courses in high school and saw the opportunity to watch more and didn't hesitate to do so. The first video was funny as most of the crash courses are. The beginning was awesome with the slurpee comparison and it makes it easier and a lot of fun to listen to and learn from it. I love how they try to describe the word myth, and it was awesome to see them talk about it and try to explain how the word myth works.

The second episode was really interesting. I really enjoyed the discussion of theories throughout the video. i loved the art that was shown throughout the video. It was all awesome to look at and pause the video and look at it and try to fining meaning when it came to mythological ideas. The video does a great job with explaining the theories as it is a decently difficult subject to comprehend and learn.

The final video of the playlist  is awesome as the heroes of mythology are discussed and there isn't, usually, a great mythology story without a hero. Hero is a vague idea as the video discusses, but it is hard to have a story without that role being played. Hero's take roles throughout mythology that are different in almost every story. There are three parts to a hero's journey. Separation, trials and victories of initiation, and the return of the hero are the three most prominent categories of a hero's journey with many sub-categories throughout the three main ones.
